About Billie

I have always had a passion for writing. In the 1960s and early 70s, there weren’t smartphones or computers around (except the ones we made up from boxes and sticks and old pipes). We had television, but the only good stuff aired at night, so I spent my days sitting somewhere with my 2×4 walkie-talkie and a notebook, writing stories.

I always had notebooks; Mom always had one laying around, and Dad always had money to buy one. And, while my brothers would always have stupid criticisms, Mom and Dad were always encouraging. If you’re a parent or a mentor, I hope you don’t thwart imaginations and made-up stories from the children! I hope you read to them and point out words, encouraging the child to say them with you! Feed the hunger!

I don’t play well with others. My stories can range from love stories to thrillers. I like writing stories I believe are fun, and that I’d read myself. I don’t search Bing or Google to learn what books are popular to decide what to write (and sell to). This isn’t to say that real life won’t influence me–Transition came to me when I came out of the closet as transgender. Making Dull the Thorns was the result of attacks on transgender children. But I have spent 60+ years living experiences that fuel my imagination with what to write about… cue the Parched Earth Green Corn trilogy, and more to come, life allowing.

I also don’t like the idea of fitting myself into specific sacks depending on a story’s content. Regardless the genre–romance, sci-fi or space opera–Billie Winterholer is my name. Even if I should publish as Eyhrica Reign, I will still be Billie. I hope you enjoy!
